Whether you are a local authority, charity, community group, business, care home or local resident, we hope you will feel inspired to mark the International Day of Older People in a way that reflects your community.
You might take inspiration from activities and celebrations from previous years or draw on some of the ideas below.
- Celebrate the work already happening in your area to become more age-friendly. This could include showcasing local initiatives, partnerships or services that support people to live well as they age, and highlighting examples of good practice across your community.
- Use the day as an opportunity to raise awareness and share information. You might organise an event, campaign or activity that brings people together and highlights the importance of creating inclusive, supportive environments for older people.
- Look ahead and take action for the future. This could include building new partnerships, starting conversations, or identifying practical steps that will help make your community more age-friendly over time.
However you choose to mark IDOP, your activities will help to raise awareness of ageing, celebrate the contributions of older people, and support the ongoing development of age-friendly communities where everyone can live well.
