Active travel – that is, making everyday journeys by walking or cycling – is an easy and effective way of bringing more physical activity into our lives. And remaining active is essential if we’re to make the most of our longer lives. The latest research shows that levels of physical activity and active travel are low especially among older age groups, but it’s never too late to become active.
The pandemic has already led to a change in travel habits, with dozens of travel schemes such as pop-up cycle lanes implemented, creating new opportunities to increase levels of active travel in our communities.
In this webinar we looked at some of the key motivations and barriers to active travel for people in their 50s and 60s. We also explored the role of the built environment in encouraging active travel.
