Using two of our recently released reports, we will examine the way our homes affect our health, with recommendations for how government should mitigate the impact of unsafe and inaccessible homes.
Our homes should be places of safety and dignity, but for too many people this is not the case. The housing crisis for older people is already severe and desperate. Our recent report released with the Fabian Society, Forward planning: A vision of ageing at home, highlights the scale of the problem and provides recommendations for necessary action to prevent this issue worsening.
As well as providing an overview of unsafe, inaccessible homes, we will be contextualising the scale of the problem by highlighting the impact of damp and mouldy homes. Our recent spotlight on this topic, released with Health Equals, examines the way in which every group in our society is impacted by unsafe homes. These hazards not only take a toll on our physical health and mental wellbeing but also lead to social and economic impacts such as missing work or school.
In this focused one-hour session, we will discuss the findings of the reports and present recommendations to address these pressing issues.
