Longer working lives offer many benefits, but achieving these can pose challenges for individuals, employers, and policymakers. In order to support older people to remain in paid work for longer, it is imperative that we have a better understanding of the lives of older workers, and in particular the kinds of changes that occur in people's working lives in their 50s and 60s.
In this event, IFS researchers present their findings from a new report, funded by the Centre for Ageing Better, that seeks to shed new light on the working lives of people in their 50s and 60s, and discuss the key implications for the future. Speakers discussed the challenges for older workers when the furlough scheme is wound down, the potential for increasing flexibility in older worker's jobs, and the challenges for older workers who have longstanding health problems.
