Transport
Our aim is for transport systems to enable people to be better connected in their communities so that they can sustain social relations and remain healthy and active as they age.

We want to see transport solutions that are accessible, affordable and enable an ageing society to get and stay connected with the world around them.
Transport plays an essential role in helping us make and maintain social connections as we age. But transport options vary for different people and places and may become limited as our circumstances change. Amongst other factors, sight loss, bereavement, a lack of support or places to go can prevent people from having active lives and feeling connected in their community.
Our goal to help create more age-friendly and connected communities means improving transport infrastructure and services. This includes opportunities for active travel, inclusive design, innovative new modes of transport, affordability, and availability and accessibility of public, private and community transport options.
We’re collaborating with local and national government on transport improvement. This includes sharing knowledge and encouraging inclusive design from the Industrial Strategy Grand Challenge on Ageing – where funded organisations create innovative ways of improving local services.
