Census 2021 data showed that our population is ageing. In the last 40 years, the number of people aged 50 and over has increased by over 6.8 million (a 47% increase), and nearly 1 in 5 of us are currently aged 65 and over. Over the next twenty years that will become 1 in 4. We need to act now to make the most of the opportunities, and combat the challenges, of this change.
Councils have a key role to play. Their role as place makers and conveners, as well as service providers make them well placed to act far beyond social care and for the longer term.
Across the UK, local authorities are already taking action. In this session hear inspiring examples of how councils are leading work to become Age-friendly Communities and making changes in services and infrastructure to respond to this new reality.
