The Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside was formed in 1974 - Flanked by the Irish Sea to the west, it extends from Bootle in the south, to Southport in the north. Home to the Aintree Grand National, and Anthony Gormley's Another Place at Crosby Beach and Southport, the borough has a thriving tourism industry. The borough joined the Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities in August 2018.
