Since 2016, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Centre for Ageing Better have been working in partnership to develop and share innovative approaches to tackling social, economic and health inequalities in later life.
This summary includes detail of our co-design approach with design organisation Humanly, and of the work this led to - a tailored 50+ support offer as part of the Support to Succeed programme delivered by The Growth Company in Greater Manchester. It highlights the importance of co-designing support, delivering services within trusted spaces and the crucial role of key workers and specialist organisations.
Ageing Better commissioned a co-design process and worked closely with Greater Manchester Combined Authority to develop a dedicated 50+ offer as part of the wider Support to Succeed programme. Support to Succeed was designed to support residents not in work or engaging with Jobcentre across the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, offering support to people of all ages but with a specific focus on over 50s to understand what good support could look like for this age group.
The voluntary programme was delivered by the Growth Company (GC) as lead provider, with a supply chain of seven local organisations, all engaging with a range of additional local services designed to meet the needs of participants. Our evaluation, delivered by the National Centre for Social Research and WPI Economics, highlights the impact of delivery on those who are often viewed as furthest from the labour market, and demonstrates the wider social impact of support.
