Many still die prematurely, suffer from diseases or disabilities for much of their later life, experience poverty and financial insecurity, feel lonely and isolated or lack meaning and purpose.
While longer life is to be celebrated, if more of our extra years are to be lived in poor health, the implications for individuals and society may be negative.
