The places we live in shape the way we interact and our ability to get and stay connected as we grow older. Too many people face barriers that stop them doing the things they enjoy and that matter to them.
Being connected to others is fundamental to the wellbeing of individuals. To enjoy later life, it’s important people aged 50 and over live in communities that make it easier to stay connected and participate, even as life changes. This includes the physical, virtual and organisational conditions that shape the way we interact.
We’re working with local government, civil society and businesses to understand what works to create the conditions that build and sustain our social connections and sense of purpose as we age.
We’re also working to improve the design of places and spaces, transport and digital and community-led approaches, so that more people have opportunities to be active, involved and valued in their communities regardless of age, ability or circumstances.
