Everything we do is driven by research and people's experiences
We take an evidence informed approach to our work, combining robust data and research, professional expertise and input from people with lived experience of the issues we seek to address. This ensures our recommendations are based on reliable, practical and tested information.
When working with the public, we blend lived experiences with our team's professional knowledge to better understand and address barriers to ageing well. This approach grounds our solutions to ageing inequalities in real-world experiences.
How we involve people
We engage people in various ways. From photo shoots to develop our image library collection to working with local communities to understand what age-friendly homes look like to more formal working groups to design and test new services for over 50’s employment support.
Many of those who helped us on these and other projects have been invited to form an online Experts by Experience Network so we can continue to work together and realise the benefits of our combined knowledge.
Our thanks go to everyone who has contributed to our work and the ongoing commitment of our Experts by Experience Network members. People sharing their lived experiences with us has led to a diverse and authentic collection of images which we see used in magazines, advertising, presentations, reports and social media posts. Learning from people’s personal experiences has shaped our understanding of age-friendly homes and recommendations for good home hubs. The ideas for tailored employment support have led to the testing of pilot projects in different sectors and parts of the country, enabling us to call for service and policy changes with evidence of what works.
How to get involved
Our Experts by Experience Network is our primary route for engaging people in our work. Additionally, we draw on our extensive networks, including members of the Age-friendly communities network, local and national voluntary, community and faith sector organisations, and academic institutions, for introductions or to collaborate. We also use our newsletters, social media channels and website to reach out.
We are not recruiting members to any live projects or the Experts by Experience Network, but you can subscribe to our newsletters where we will share new opportunities.
