Older workers are vital to our economy, and are still the future of the labour market. At a time when we need all in society to contribute there is a risk of ignoring a vast resource in the form of the skills, experience, and proven work ethic of older workers because of ageism - both in recruitment and in the workplace.
Evidence shows that older workers are being just as affected as other groups by the pandemic, and there is an argument that they are as susceptible, particularly because of age discrimination. As a result firms are missing out on the intangible productivity generated by social mixing and transfer of knowledge between generations.
Dismissing older workers as ‘past it’ is not just damaging to the individuals who are denied access to opportunities to grow and develop, these attitudes damage our economy – and by extension, all of our chances for a richer, more fulfilling life. We won’t be able to improve productivity without them.
Join this webinar to discuss these issues with experts from ACAS and the Centre for Ageing Better, and a Call to Action for employers to re-evaluate their policies – by simple steps and practical advice, in consideration of the benefits of multi-generational workplaces.
