Our bespoke, customisable report was created in partnership with the Local Government Association’s data benchmarking platform, LG Inform. It is intended to help users build their local evidence base on ageing and support better local decision making on issues affecting older people. Gathering data in order to understand the experiences of people ageing in your community is vital to making improvements and becoming an age-friendly community but can be challenging and resource intensive.
By filtering data by local authority and exploring metrics across four key domains - Headline Metrics, Built Environment, Social Environment, and Health – local authorities and organisations can identify inequalities, benchmark against national averages and peer areas, and track changes over time. All data is shown for older age groups – with multiple age cohorts where possible. Sources include the Census, ONS, Department for Transport, Department for Work and Pensions, NHS England, and Sport England. All data will be updated as new source data is released.
For councils and organisations outside of England, please see our other local data tools for guidance on data available for the UK and for Wales, Scotland , and Northern Ireland.
