Local approach to ageing
We want more people to enjoy their later life, regardless of where they live. We're helping more places to take a collaborative and strategic approach to ageing, grounded in evidence.

Through our strategic localities partnerships and work with the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities we share learning, stimulate innovation and help to shape local practice. We also support the development of practical changes that make a difference to people’s lives.
In less than 20 years, over 40% of the UK population will be aged 50 or over. But we're not ageing evenly everywhere. Already, one in three local authorities – mostly rural and coastal – have populations with this age profile.
To help address the distinct assets and challenges of each locality, we work with partners and in local areas to help us bring about change for people as they age.
Across our Strategic Locality Partnerships of Greater Manchester, Leeds and Lincolnshire, we demonstrate the benefits of a joined-up approach to the opportunities of longer lives.
We also provide the secretariat and support to the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities, where members ensure the views of older residents are at the heart of their plans.
We work to influence local policy makers and practitioners, providing relevant and usable evidence.
Over the next 10 years, we aim to deepen our impact with Strategic Locality Partnerships, grow the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities, and build wider capability for change around the country.
