The paper sets out some of the key issues relevant to the question of raising State Pension age, such as:
- Demographic changes challenge the current welfare settlement
- Inequalities in healthy life expectancy
- Gender, generational and cohort differences
- Labour market participation of older workers being key to economic growth
We address each of the key issues and assess them against the terms of the John Cridland review, namely; fairness; affordability and; policies focussed on fuller working lives.
We then suggest how these issues need to be framed in light of the available evidence.
We conclude by setting out some suggested actions that we believe could be considered further during the course of Review.
