"It’s vital that the suspension of the triple lock is a genuinely temporary measure in response to the events of the pandemic, and that the earnings link be reinstated after a year.
"The triple lock is crucial to those who rely on the state pension for their main, or only, source of income. For those people, this is already a very limited amount: the UK has one of the least generous state pensions in the OECD and over 2 million pensioners are living in poverty.
“We must also remember that the triple lock doesn’t just benefit today’s retirees; those retiring in the years to come will be hit hardest by any reduction in the state pension.”
