Responding to the Government’s loneliness strategy, Dan Jones, Director of Innovation and Change at the Centre for Ageing Better said:
'It’s right that Government recognises the importance of connecting with the people around us. One of the most important things for protecting our wellbeing as we age is holding on to our existing friendships and relationships, and continuing to build new social connections.
'We desperately need to break down the barriers that make it harder for people to support each other and stay connected to their communities – especially people in poor health or on low incomes, carers and others at most risk.
'We will shortly be publishing a review of community contributions in later life, and making recommendations to public sector, government, charities and funders on how they can help break down these barriers and prevent people becoming lonely.'
