Retirement
We want employers to support older workers in thinking about and preparing for retirement.
Older workers are a growing and crucial part of a successful workforce. But without the right support from employers, many people are unable to continue working if they want to do so.
Too many people in mid-life are not planning for old age or life beyond work. Thinking ahead could help improve the chances of a good later life, and people aged 50-70 could benefit from better access to information and advice so that they can plan and prepare for the future.
Mid-life support via interventions, such as mid-life MOTs, is an employee benefit that can contribute to the recruitment and retention of employees, regardless of age. Mid-life support enables people to work for as long as they want to. In turn, employers can hold on to their skills and experiences, deploy staff effectively and benefit from age-diverse workforces.
Employers need to support people in mid-life as a way of helping them stay in work for longer if they want to, plan for what they will need in retirement, and think ahead about their future needs.
