Employer attitudes: Evidence cards
This set of downloadable evidence cards summarises employers’ attitudes towards older workers, including their thoughts on being an age-friendly employer.
The UK’s ageing population means that older workers make up a vital part of the workforce, both today and in the future.
However, many older workers face barriers to staying in work, and people in their 50s and 60s who fall out of work struggle with ageism in the recruitment process. More than a third of older workers feel their age would work against them in getting a new job.
With few employers focusing on age diversity, older workers continue to be disadvantaged in the labour market and employers are missing out on their experience. This situation is unlikely to change unless more employers take action to create a multi-generational workforce that harnesses the talents of workers of all ages.
Our research shows that most other employers could be persuaded to adopt age-inclusive policies and practices, if the ‘why’ and ‘how’ is delivered in the right way by the right people.
This resource is for organisations that work with employers and recruiters, providing more in-depth information on how employers view older workers.
