Work and health in later life
Our workforce, like the population at large, is ageing. This is dramatically changing the structure of our workforce, as we have more clients, colleagues and customers in older age brackets.
Many people want or need to continue working as they get older but can face barriers in doing so.
A third of the workforce in England are aged 50 or over, nearly 9 million workers. But not all employers are offering what’s needed to retain older workers, or recognising the importance of recruiting them.
We are working with the government and employers to create the right conditions for more people over 50 to be in fulfilling work. We have developed a range of resources including a five-point guide to help employers create age-friendly workplaces.
Find out what we’re doing to support people back into work and to eliminate age bias in recruitment.
